Tucked away in the heart of Youlgreave, Fountain House Hostel is your base for slowing down and soaking up the Peak District. We believe travel is about more than ticking places off a list, it’s about connection, community, and the joy of the journey itself.
Our hostel offers great access to the outdoors, with riverside walks, rolling hills, and village charm right on the doorstep. We promote slow travel, encouraging guests to truly appreciate their surroundings and take time to explore at their own pace. At Fountain House, we love connecting travellers with local insight and community spirit, helping you authentically experience the Peak District. All you need to focus on is the adventure, whether that’s a hike through stunning landscapes, a stroll to the village bakery, or simply enjoying the stillness of the countryside.
Our Story & Connection with the YHA
Fountain House has welcomed travellers to Youlgreave for generations, with roots deeply connected to the YHA. In 2022, Colin Trigg acquired the building with a clear vision: to restore this beloved hostel, revive its resources, and continue serving both locals and visitors as a hub for adventure and connection.
While now independently run, Fountain House remains affiliated with the YHA and embraces its spirit. fostering community, encouraging exploration, and helping people experience the Peak District meaningfully.
Our mission is simple: to honour the YHA legacy while shaping Fountain House into a place where slow travel, local connection, and authentic adventure thrive.
